I painted a picture for my mother in honor of Mother’s Day one year. Serendipitously, it ended up feeling embryonic in nature, like a womb. This particular piece is a remix of that painting with a night sky image by Rolf Geissinger, a photographer based in Germany who has been featured multiple times on NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day. (I found him because he had taken this image that appeared on my birthday in 2010.) My piece is part of a larger project which I call “We Are All Made Of Stardust,” based on a phrase that astrophysicist Carl Sagan spoke on his TV show, “Cosmos.” This project is in its 6th year of life and will continue for as many more years as I am alive . . . and perhaps even beyond to infinity and the stars. That body of work can be viewed at www.weareallmadeofstardust.com
