"Family" is of a mother and baby elephant my husband and I encountered in Thailand at an elephant rehabilitation center. The red background highlights the bright colors often found throughout Thai culture and artwork. The golden elephants represent the numerous temples in Thailand. We found it incredible that the temples were built at such expense and with such grandeur, especially since the homes and businesses were so plain. They clearly mean a great deal to the people of Thailand, which is why it is  a highlight of the finalized piece. The vines symbolize the vast jungle surrounding the metropolitan cities in Thailand.

My husband dabbles in graffic design work and he combined two of my art pieces along with adding a bit of pop art style color for effect. The elephant piece was created with colored pencil for the elephants themselves and acrylic paint for the background. The second piece was of various vines spread throughout the page, hand painted in metallic gold. We thought it was special that the piece was a collaborative effort. Even more so because it was a moment we shared while on our honeymoon.
